I do believe that I can tell the "difference" with a reasonable degree of accuracy between DSD and PCM (see link below). And everything being equal I "prefer" DSD. But rarely (almost never) is everything equal. Probably as it stands right now my favorite recording of all time on *any* format with respect to "you are there" simulation is Widor's Mass Op.36 on JAV Recordings and it is most certainly a PCM sourced recording. My second most favorite in this regard is Earth, Wind, & Fire "Gratitude" which is sourced from quad analog tapes. I have comments about both of these discs on SA-CD.net.The bottom line is that if I were to give a list of *most* important ingredients to a recipe of exceptionally produced music the DSD vs. PCM issue would near the bottom.
