For the jazz pop end of the musical spectrum, I would add these:Eden Atwood "This is Always" and "Bossa Nova Sessions"
Both tip-top sonics and fine performances, small
ensemble, "song standards" jazzTierny Sutton "Something Cool"
Also, small ensemble jazz vocal standards.Susanna McCorkle "From Bessie to Brazil"
Splendid collection of singer-song standards, very
good soncis.
Yorma Kakonen "Big Country Heart"
Uptempo country jazz (is there any such thing?) and
blues. Wonderful sonics.Blood Sweat and Tears
Amazingly good sonics for a record of this vintage.
Stay away from BS&T 3 -- it just doesn't cut it
musically.Steely Dan "Gaucho"
One of the very few
pop/rock records that features superior sonics.Beck "Sea Change"
Another of the handful of rock/pop records that
don't disappoint sonically.Joe Weed "The Vultures"
One of the sonic champs. Splendid pop instrumentals,
from movie themes, to beach music, to Booker
T's "Green Onions"Ella Fitzgerald "Ella and Louis"
Oldy but goody. Sometimes, it's a bit edgy sonically.
But the voices have tremendous presence, and the
material and the peformances are sensational.
