Have been waiting for years for a top-grade Shostakovich 10th Symphony recorded in DSD released on SACD soon. We have multiple releases of his other symphonies and only a couple of the 10th which are not quite notable. Labels seem to be intentionally bypassing the 10th. I would be very interested in an RNO recording of the 10th on Pentatone.
The Royal Philharmonic SACD is a PCM transfer from the mid 90's, an era which I prefer not to revisit, considering the far-improved quality of the latest digital technology.I find Shostakovich 10th to be the symphony that shows him in his most inspired form. It is a powerful work that requires an equally inspired conductor and orchestra to pull off convincingly.
