Re: How's The Sound Quality On The Vanska?

Truly excellent sound. I have heard things I never noticed before.

Interpretation? It's different. Rougher than I'm used to. Also somewhat slower, but not boring. Some truly excellent things here. It is gratifying to be able to distinguish the words of the chorus. Much better than CD versions in that regard. Still, the first movement. And the soprano. And the chopiness.

I grew up with Szell's version and I'll probably always return to that one, although there are problems with it. Then there is Furtwangler in several versions, dim sound though. Horenstein had a nice version on a budget label. My favorite modern version up to now has been that by Herrewhege.
