Yes, it plays.AFAIK analog 2ch out and HDMI digital out, Digital out is in PCM form and in several user selectable sample freq/bit depth combinations No optical digital out..
The receiving end should be able to process d/a from a HDMI source.
There are a handful of AVRs which can receive digital audio from HDMI and convert it to analog. Some of them even process it (mening bass and time management functions, room correction, applying 'sound fields', the like)
I think traditional 'audiophile' companies will not use HDMI for the foreseeable future.
