...some amps become unstable when presented with ultrasonic tones, and these oscillations can set up secondary ripples down in the audible zone. Easiest way to find out if you have a second amp (or can borrow one) is to try a different amplifier in the system (or preamp-amp if that is what you are using).I've heard of a similar problem ocurring from others, but have never experienced it myself.
