...then a bust laser is only one of 100 possibilities.A dirty laser does not suddenly stop the machine - it would typically cause you to start to have problems with some discs but not others, and slowly this would get worse across weeks or even months - but it wouldn't cause it to just stop.
In my techical opion, it's time for a check over by someone competent.
