Dennis,My amp and preamp are tube types; I've owned several tube driven digital players. I've settled on two digital playback devices that are transistor, and I am satisfied that they are giving me better performance than the tube SACD players I've auditioned. Both of my current players have been highly modified, but it was on the basis of their sound in their original state that prompted me to make the decisions I have. Of course, YMMV, but you may want to think about room treatments to enervate any of the problems you are currently perceiving. This is far less costly than switching components, and, generally, far more effective.
