It is far easier to write software for a PS3 than mess with a SACD player firmware.
Assuming this player converts to PCM (as most cheaper SACD players do) and this is implemented in software, a clever hacker can reverse engineer this. So we can get nearly perfect PCM copies of SACDs!
To save money, if decryption is no longer done by dedicated chips, hacking gets easier. This is just a speculation. I am not a hacker and am just stating that there may be unwanted side effects.

- The SACD decrypt is most likely done in firmware. Some type of PLD probably. nt - meisterkleef 07:14:28 05/09/06 (0)
