I would have answered exactly as Erdo did.A multi-channel surround mix is intended to be listened to as a multi-channel surround program ONLY. I have NEVER made a surround recording that would collapse to stereo in any way that I would intend! There is an entirely different approach applied to the stereo vs. surround mixes.
Additionally, I would suspect that the player/receiver mixing circuit is quite inadequate to make a good mix, even if it was possible - which it is not, IMO.
Since the dedicated stereo mix is ALWAYS there on SACD, why would you ever choose to make a stereo mix from the WRONG program?
