Hmm, never took the time to compare filter settings on my DVD5900. As for noise, early PS Audio HCA-2's produced audible hiss on their own especially when coupled to somewhat sensitive speakers. Later versions had their gain reduced by 6dB which helped a lot. I had both at one time (early dealer demo on loan and a newer one that I bought).
