Although the figures in no way allow meaningful conclusions to be derived, they are an indication that cannot be dismissed. For instance the Soundscan figures may not take into account online purchases of DVD-A, but they don't take into account online purchases of SACD either; Vivante in the UK are the most popular online retailer of hi-rez/audiophile recordings and they report far more SACD sales than DVD-A.

The full article by Barry Fox does expand on the legal wrangles by the way but I didn't have the time or the inclination to post it.

In my opinion a hybrid DVD-V/CD format couldn't fail to succeed in the market place but it's all down to patents, politics and percentages.
What the public would buy is imaterial, it's all about multinationals protecting their own interests and securing a piece of the worldwide software pie for themselves.
