...and by modifying the source he is voicing the source for optimum synergy in the context of his system. It is no different than choosing the best interconnect to match a system. While an argument could be made for using the most resolving system possible to do this, I think optimizing on a variety of systems would work the best. The Stereophile review on the Ayre integrated amp is worth reading regarding these issues. The one error in that review was that a different balanced source wasn't tried with the amp. I wasn't surprised that the Ayre CD player sounded good with the Ayre amp. I will try to take Alex up on his offer, as all this aside I am sure it must sound good!
