Hi,The description by fmak of Allen's player with level 2 mod's is
interesting. I own a VSE xb940 with level 2 mod's myself. I have
also tidied up the grounding in the machine considerably by removing
some of the multiple grounds (the most obvious of which is the fact that the original phono sockets are grounded to the case). The positive effect on sound quality of tidying this up is large.I have also been trialing Allen's new set of mod's for the player. This involves, first, in basic terms replacing the jfet in the buffer of the VSE board with a bipolar transistor. It is early days yet, but
my preliminary listening indicates that the issue you have with "analysis" will be remedied by this mod and then some. The sound
is more defined and crisper throughout the range than it was with the jfet.Next, once I have come to terms with what this mod has done Allen has suggested a mod which essentially removes global negative feedback from the buffer. I hope to try this in the next fortnight or so. There is lots of life in the xb 940 yet!
Rob.
completely dispelled by this mod
