I use my Denon 1600 in a two channel system where I don't have a TV. I did hook the unit up to the TV just to set it to TWO CHANNEL output, but after that two minute affair, I don't need one. It's really not true that one needs to have a TV on everytime one want's to listen to a DVD~A disc.Group 1 is usually the MultiChannel Mix and Group 2 is the dedicated STEREO mix, if one is present. Now, for the bonus crap, you'd obviously want to have that TV installed.
