Why I like SACD (in 2ch vs vinyl) after listening to it for 2 days.

SACD, when done right, is a format that brings out the best in analog recordings without the hassle of vinyl playback.

At first I was trying to figure out what the big deal was w/ SACD, as I put in the Police's first album (Ourlandous D' Amour). Then I put in a CD of the same album. Ahhhh.

Cymbals had a much greater presence, but didn't sound overly harsh. Detail was the same as it was in the CD, however, the overall sound mix wasn't dynamically compressed in the slightest. Things were spaced out , so to speak, very nicely. I think a vinyl album would sound "smoother", but you also have to deal with surface noise and inner groove distortion.

This isn't even the best recroded album, and already I sense a musicality that seems to put the sounstage in three dimensions on my B&W dm303 bookshelves. SACD combines the convenience of CD with a nearly perfect translation of analog sound. Not only that, but SACDs aren't even that expensive; maybe 3 dollars more than CDs, usually less than that.

Welp, that's my take on it. I hope to hear more great music from SACD soon.

btw, I'm using a NAD c340 amp, Monster z1 speaker wire, tara labs prism33i ICs, and a Philips DVD795sa 5 disc cd/dvd/sacd changer.
