The fixed headphone cord (especially on a $500 pair of 'phones) does seem like a drawback at first, but consider the target audience.
I'd call the the HD630VB a full-sized *semi-portable* design that straddles the border between a "lifestyle" product and an "audiophile" product - sort of like a super-charged Sennheiser Momentum, if you will. Sealed for better isolation in public places, but probably too big for use on an airplane or a bus. Foldable, but just enough to enhance durability.
In other words, this might be the perfect "nightstand headphone". One for the audiophile who want a high-quality listening experience while his significant is snoring nearby.
