Headphone 1/4 to 3.5 mm adapter problem

So my brother has a McIntosh C32 with a 1/4 headphone jack. Headphones though are 3.5mm connection. In trying to utilize a 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter the signal breaks in-and-out. Wiggle it and signal comes back in. I think the connection problem is on the 3.5mm side of the adapter. Is there a good quality 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter out there that has a stronger 3.5 mm side to it that always makes the electrical connection? Or is there an alternative solution I'm not aware of?
