There's always better headphones and/or a better headphone amp. However, I'm quite pleased with my new STAX system. I don't think it needs a different tonal balance or any bass boost. It sounds perfect to me. Perhaps it was designed for my particular ears. ;-)

Anyway, I'm not prepared to spend anymore money on headphones. I'm perfectly satisfied with the sound of my new STAX system. If I spend more money, it will be for larger Magnepan speakers. However, I probably don't even need to do that. I'm very happy with my Mini Maggie speakers set up in an ultra near-field listening configuration. Imaging is holographic and tonal balance sounds just fine to me.

I'm 75 years old and I think this might be my final system. All I want to do now is listen to music.
