RE: Shure SE846

Do the Shure SE846 IEM earphones have four balanced armature drivers? FiiO used to make IEM earphones with multiple balanced armature drivers and I own several of them. I was very impressed with them at first and then FiiO came out with a single driver IEM earphone design and I was surprised at the switch. However, when I bought the $300 FiiO FD5 single dynamic driver earphone I was even more surprised that they sounded noticeably better than FiiO's multiple balanced armature models. Next, FiiO came out with the FD7 earphones incorporating a single pure beryllium driver and I bought them immediately. They were even better than the FD5 earphones but they were also more expensive at $600 from Amazon.

Next, FiiO brought out their flagship model, the FiiO FDX, also with a single pure beryllium dynamic driver. They were actually identical to the FD7 except they were gold plated and came with a special cable made from gold, silver, and copper, and they cost $900, I was told. When they appeared on Amazon they were selling for $700. I didn't buy them since they appeared to be identical to the FD7 earphones except for the cable. I simply bought the cable for $100 and put it on my FD7. It did make a slight improvement.

Now, the FiiO FDX model earphones are on sale through Amazon for just under $500, so I bought a pair. These FDX earphones are beautiful and they sound better than any earphone or headphone I've ever heard. Unfortunately, I've never heard the Shure SE846, but from my experience with FiiO's multiple balanced armature earphones, I now believe that single dynamic driver earphones sound the best and I don't really want to spend $799 to find out how the Shure SE846 earphones sound. The FDX earphones sound so much better than any other earphones or headphones I've ever heard that I'm completely happy with them.

Merry Christmas!
