Minorty report on the Audeze LCD-2

It's a high-end orthodynamic (planar) headphone that sells for a grand. It's the darling of the reviewers. People rave about it.

Well, I guess I'm the minority report. I tried a pair and really didn't care for them at all. Remember how a cd player circa 1982 sounded? Like the music had been sliced up and put back together without all the pieces? Same deal.

I'm so used to the coherence and 'natural' sound of my Stax SR-507's that the LCD-2's just sounded artificial to me. I like other dynamic cans. I own a pair of AT's and I have a pair of Denon MD7000's on order (MD5000's were my first can and I miss them sometimes).

Then there's the comfort factor. The Audeze's weigh twice what my stax do, and felt like it. The headband had bumps on it a la AKG K701 and you know what that means. Yup, you could feel them on the crown of your head. NOT GOOD.

I bought these on the 'where there's smoke there's fire' theory, but they certainly didn't do anything for me. YMMV.
