Thanks for the comparison with the 4XX.
There are a bunch of mods. Most involve changing pads and putting in a fuzzer to "fix the highs". I have the 2nd series and the highs had none of the ringing they mention and that lots of the mods are trying to correct.
I have done 2 mods basically. Remove the grills and damp the metal with strips of dynamat. You mention the 4xx sounding like you are hearing actual voices and sounds. This mod gets the 1060 there. Well its more like you are not listening to headphones (like they just arent there) but outside of a few background sounds that startle or make you turn around, you still know you are listening to cans. Its hard to imagine ANY can that would make you think someone was in the room making noise vs. listening to headphones.
