Welcome to Headphone Heights, the place for all your ear bud discussion

The Sony MDR-CD5.

If you look up the specs, at least how they were in the original manual it says they can do 136 dB. DANGEROUS ! What's more their response went from 2-20,000 Hz. That is not twenty, is is two.

Before that I had Sansui SS-10. I had good ears that could take it but I bet those would make some people's ears bleed. I connected them straight to the speakers, no dropping resistors. You could just listen to them like speakers but they lacked bass unless you put them on. I custom cut the foams on them to get better sound, the originals were blocking too much sound and making them sound muffled.

I have never ever heard anything like either of those, both from the 1970s. But I am kinda old and I am not going to do ear buds. I know they can be quite a bit more efficient. In fact an engineer I correspond with in an engineering forum say he damaged his eardrum while trying to design a compressor for a hearing aid. The math was a little off I guess.
