I've only had headphones for about a year (Senn HD-650, with stock wiring driven by the headphone jack on my Arcam integrated), so take this with several grains of salt. It took me a while to get used to vinyl and headphones, but the benefits vastly outweighed the drawbacks for me.
The biggest drawback for me is a double-whammy of sorts. My Rega tonearm is known for clumping the sound at the speakers a bit, and that is more noticeable through the headphones. My primitive headphone rig certainly doesn't diminish this any. Still, I've learned to listen around it and have had a great time. Headphones are a growing part of listening for me (at least 75% of my listening now) and something I plan on investing more into when some cash frees up.
