My listening room is a combination family room that opens into a kitchen. There's the wall (with the speakers in front) then about seven feet to my sofa.
Behind the sofa is the kitchen 'island'. Last night I was listening to my speakers for a few hours. Then I got up to do dishes, so I was standing behind the island and about 4-5 more feet back from the speakers.
OMFG. They sound SO MUCH BETTER from another four feet away. This is hardly the first time I've had this revelation.
That's what I miss about DQ-10's. For all their faults they were an 'audiophile' speaker that was somewhat 'intimate'. You could put them in a not that big room, listen pretty close and they still sounded great.
All this 'speakers and room' nonsense just makes me tired. It's such a PITA. Which is one of the reasons I like headphone listening so much and have two high-end headphone systems (one Stax, one Dynamic). It's so nice to just forget all that room nonsense.
But I still wish I could get a nice, new pair of DQ-10s for my listening room.
