Believe it or not IEMs (In Ear Monitors) not earbuds (like those that come w/ an IPod )
work pretty well at isolating noise.. Whenever I used them I found the "deep" Compli ear tips better than most of the tips that come stardard on most IEMs. Shure has a reasonably priced series of high SQ IEMs
They might be just what you need to let you ignore that construction while listening to music on your patio
