Thought I'd add a past setup, since my current one is so simple.
Years ago, I used Grado RS-1s, an Earmax Pro OTL with vintage 1960's Amperex Bugle Boy 6DJ8s, and a Jolida JD603A CD player as the source.
It sounded very good, but the Jolida kept giving me fits on the tray.
The primary source is a PC now, and while I miss the Earmax Pro (I still have it), my current setup is very close to as good, with zero hassle or warm up -- and the tray never sticks...
