I am looking into a pair of 600 Ohm Beyerdynamic DT-990 headphones. I currently have a Bottlehead Crack amplifier, which I like very much. My understanding is that it should drive the 990s with no problems.
What I would like to know is the relationship between impedence and amplifier drive. What is the relationship, if any, between impedence and sound quality? What is the benefit of high impedence 'phones? Why aren't all headphones low impedence? Bass response? I was once told that high impedence 'phones have a lower noise floor as compared to lower impedence 'phones.
Regards,
Karl
