I have a Drop HD6xx and HifiMan HE400se, so a similar comparison to what you are proposing. I think the HD6xx would be too similar to the HD58x to be thought of as an upgrade, more like a slightly different flavor. Getting a planar would be more fun as there is very different sound signature. On the right material the planar bass is an astonishing thing in clarity and texture. I find the HD6xx my best all around headphone across genre.
