I have the HD530s that I use only a few times a year. What I do when there is an intermittant problem is to spray the plug and the plug receptacle with electrical contact cleaner. Works nicely for me.

Of course the suggestion for a replacement cable may also be something you want to try. After having the HD530s in storage for a few years they benefitted greatly from a new replacement cable.
