This has already been mentioned, but Schiit makes an excellent headphone amplifier for $99. You can connect it to your tape output if you're not using it for a recorder. Even if you're already using the tape output, you can still connect the Schiit headphone amplifier because it has an output connected directly to its input like a Y-adapter. In fact, that's what it's designed for.
