I'm not a Stax expert though.

You might search the archives here for the posts of experienced Stax owners, try emailing one or two of them asking for help and advice.

You can also try posting your questions over at headfi.

Or try contacting Stax directly for technical support.

Shipping damage might be the culprit here but since you bought them used you are on your own now.
