I tried the Tung-Sol 6550, EI KT-90, WE 350B, and several 6L6 types in mine. The 6L6 types and the 350Bs sound the best. I'd not try the 6V6s unless the amp was set up/modified to run that output tube within the 6V6 parameters. From Victor's response I am suspecting that the 6V6 is outside the operating parameters of the stock TU-879S. I had an AES Superamp that would run all these different types plus the 6V6s, but the 6V6s ran very hot and did not sound the best. I would like to hear a single-ended 6V6 amp someday. I bet they are really sweet & listenable.
