If both speakers hum, and you've shorted the inputs the way the second poster suggested, you either have a lose ground connection, or this amp is old enough, the filter caps are beginning to dry out and the ground hum you are hearing is really small amounts of AC making its way through to the circuit.
measure the voltage arcross the big caps. If its more than millivolt or so, the caps are likely shot.
