New DVD-Audio music releases and talk about the latest players.

Search for the Magic Codec.......

This is a potential endeavor for me from the software angle....

The problem is whether it's Redbook CD, SACD, or DVD-A, finding a D/A converter that doesn't mangle the music can be a frustrating chore. But the place to look, for now, is with codecs constantly under development at various computer audio sites. I think the shell to run these codecs on is WinAmp.... It yields the best sonics and video in the PC environment.

I've gotten excellent results with two codecs- Xvid and X264, the latter yields the best performance from the DVD format, but the former is most format-friendly across-the-board. And in either case, the performance, even on my memory and processor-light laptop, destroys that of expensive dedicated players. (I just recently found out that the video on Aleks Syntek's "Mundo Live" DVD was of much higher quality than I first thought, and the sound quality is state-of-the-art for any audio standard.)
