New DVD-Audio music releases and talk about the latest players.

Excuse me ...

can you point out exactly where the "vitriol" in my posts are? If it's the "studio" comment, I think I was asking a valid question, because Charles' "scenario" does not match my personal experience (for one thing, when you are doing mastering, the talent is not hanging around because mastering takes a bit of time and i'm sure the musicians have better things to do).

For reference, my thesis was on computer music and I have spent quite a bit of time at the Electronic Music Studio in the Music Department at the University of Sydney. In addition, I've volunteered time at the local community radio station. Also, my brother used to play in a band and then became a recording engineer, so I'm not exactly a stranger to studios.

I'm not trying to boast - I'm simply saying the context from which I am asking a question. If Charles have actually had any studio experience, he would realise that stranger things have happened - once we had a very frustrating time just figuring out how to change the sample rate from 48 to 44.1 on a very new and expensive piece of equipment - with the musicians sitting there waiting to record (so no pressure whatsoever). In the end, we dismantled it and it was a dipswitch on the circuit board. The manual conveniently "forgot" to mention this, and the manufacturer was half a world away and wasn't about to answer a technical support question (yes, we did try calling the number!).

As to my "need to be right", it seems to me all I am doing is pointing out the facts. I think if a manufacturer who does not make HDCD players, and indeed openly says he is "anti HDCD", makes claims about HDCD that are clearly wrong, a counter balancing view based on empirical evidence and actual facts is appropriate.

Unlike Charles, I have no vested interest in what I say. I have no shares in Microsoft, and have no intention of mastering any HDCD discs or selling an HDCD player (the players that I have built are for my own use - I don't want the hassle and the stress of commercialising them). But I have spent some time trying to establish the best way to play the HDCDs that I own, and I'm simply sharing my experience.

If you don't want to hear the facts or my experience and prefer to hear Charles's player, by all means go ahead and ignore my posts.
