And that is why many people spend what others consider absurd amounts of money on an audio system. Laughing at the quality of Dead bootlegs may make one feel superior, but the point of a good system is to evoke the emotional content of the event. (Also, for those with the right connections, low generation copies of soundboard recordings are some of the best live recordings I have heard).
One might as well mock those who enjoy 78s and/or early jazz and blues recordings; of course, "they suck" compared to many modern recordings, but that misses the point of reproducing great performances as best as can be managed.
