I having trouble finding the article from Stereophile. It was either Sam Tellig or Corey Greenberg that wrote an article about making your own Radio Shack cables with solid core 18 gauge hookup wire. You twisted it every inch or so to make a helix configuration. Other notables using this kind of cable were Jack Benny, Mr.Roper and the Scottish rugby team.
