I liked the profile, and I'm sure he'd be interesting to meet. But I flip the pages fast when he gets into those Popular Mechanics accounts of refinishing/rebuilding turntables and their plinths--just not interesting to me as a non-DIY person.
The advice about hearing protection is not just for audio reviewers, of course. I wear over-the-ear hearing protection for cutting the lawn, weed whacker, vacuuming, etc. Occasionally I use my Bose noise canceling headphones without any music source--they suppress more bass than my ear protectors. Either way, it's 25-30 dB isolation.
I made the mistake of seeing Baby Driver a couple of weeks ago without bringing ear plugs, and I ended up spending much of the movie with my fingers in my ears.
