There are tests for differences and there should be tests for preferences. Single Ended Triode No global feedback class A amps measure enough differently than typical SS that they will sound different - and the few that have been done indicate that listeners subjectively prefer the no global feedback SE amps over typical SS amps in the preference based blind level matched auditions.

Art's choice of amp tends to be (may entirely be) for SE and SET amplifiers of low/no global feedback so he probably doesn't really care about the difference between a Classe and Bryston and Krell since it is likely in the first type of DBT no one can tell them apart - thus the difference will be considerably smaller than the difference between any of those three and his Shindo.


The issue of stress is a factor of the test selection process. Listening to music and looking at artwork uses one of the brain hemispheres (the right) and answering test questions - focusing and selecting is a left hemisphere (the logical mathematics hemisphere). One activity is unrelated to the other activity. In medicine the results are purely physiological and do NOT rely on the psychology of a choice.

No matter how the test is constructed even if you do AAAAA/XXXXX A/X/A/X AA/X/A you must always hold B in your head. If you do BBBB/XXX and B/X/X/B you will always have to hold A in your head.

Statistical significance to the 0.05 level is 9/10 correct guesses but to meet the SAME level 6/10 ten times for 59/100 is ALSO statistically significant that A sounded different from B. And it MUST be one singular listener not 10 listeners added together.
