Re: A Simple Plan

Obviously, what really bugs you is that these guys get to buy stuff at dealer cost and you don't.

But the ability to do so is a constant, across all brands of equipment. So whether speaker A or speaker B is a better value than speaker C still has the same answer whether the reviewer must buy the speakers at retail or at dealer cost. The relationship is the same.

The only circumstances where your point is relevant is if a reviewer were comparing, say, the retail cost of a new BMW and the cost of a "statement" stereo. Obviously, the difference between paying dealer cost and retail for the stereo would have a material effect on that comparison.

But, of course, no one is interested in a comparison like that.

The other reason, frankly, not to go for your plan is that it invites cheating. Dealers do not submit equipment for review; manufacturers do. That's where the relationship exists. So, a manufacturer is going to be reluctant to sell a product to a reviewer who has just reviewed it for more than what the manufacturer would sell that same product to a dealer.
