Lifting the cables off of the floor using a non-conductive material removes the effects of static electricity from the carpet.
The effect is pretty subtle.
Perhaps a little more air and detail in the sound.
But on my system, the effect was huge and my wife could hear it from the other room. Even my cat seemed to notice.
Just kidding.
Guess sometimes I miss writing purple prose like that...
