Yes, I think it can be done if the battery source is cheap (in your case those 0.74 9V batteries). You will, however, need to make yourself a charger for that. Provided it's a Ni-Cad battery you'll need to build a constant current charger of 1/10 of the rating (i.e. for AA size Ni-Cad normal rating will be around 450~600mA/hr. 1/10 of the current will be 60mA and charge it for 12~16hrs (completely empty needs full 16 hrs of charging). I can't remember the rating for 9V pile (approx 60mA/hr??)With C4S you mihgt have to stack up even more battteries but the outcome I think worths every single penny spent. (provided those battery piles are still 0.74 ea!).
