listening to some quite pleasant music at the moment, doing quite a good job of breaking in my widebanders and without even scaring the pets or driving my wife up the wall.
The trick is firstly, some electronic music with subterranean bass. I've got a lot of electronic music, but nothing does the job as well as Burials new album, Untrue. Its very good music in itself, I think it was the highest scoring album on all of Metacritic.com last year, and its slow - only so long I can stand 150bpm.
Secondly, digital EQ! PC based or external parametric boxes or whatever, the idea is to boost the bottom octave by about 30db. So music is now playing a conversational 70db, but I must be getting a good 7mm cone movement.
Another day or two of this and I'll set em up for my first listen!
