Hi Tom,

the combination of low- sensitive power- amps with a tvc also depends on the source. My personal suggestion is using a tubed output stage CD- player, phono- pre or reel- taperecorder, i always connected these sources to a tvc and combined them with low- sensitive amps with satisfying results. On the other side there were combinations with (even low output- impedance) transistorized sources which sometimes showed "bleached out" sound in combination with a passive pre- amp but sounded fine in combination with an active pre. To my experience this phenomen doesn`t result from mismatching impedances (of course this can happen, too - but that is another story), one powerful output, either from the source or from the pre, is ideal.
