If audio memory serves me, I believe the SLP-05 is more transparent and dynamic. I didn't have the opportunity to compare side by side and it was a while ago that I listened to the SLP-98.I believe inmate Sherlock owned the SLP-98, if I'm not mistaken. He recently bought the SLP-05. ...Abe
