I think Wayne@Bolder Cables has a mod for the XR45. Steve@Empirical Audio might go one step further with even changing out the output inductors etc. Only other option is TACT, which are the same but better built. Since Alex has started working on the Sony S500ES, I might give that a try. But based on a cursory listening at Good Guys (of the Sony DA5000ES) I think, the Sony might not beat the Panasonic in the two attributes you seem interested - transparency and dynamics.
