My 834P was nice but ultimately a little too rich for me. Sounds like your Clone tamed the overly 'ripe' sound ;-)
My favorite phono preamp before I lost interest in vinyl was the Rogue Ares II. I thought it was much better than the more pricey Aesthetix Rhea. The Rhea was extremely versatile but the Rogue sounds better. In modestly priced solid-state MM only phonos I liked the Graham Slee Era Gold V.
