Amp/Preamp Asylum Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here. |

Yesterday my 20-year old Cary SLI-80 integrated amp blew two AC fuses one after another. Perhaps, the spare fuses were faulty. One day before that, I replaced the right-hand fuse when I heard a loud popping sound (nearly an explosion) from the right speaker, after which the right channel was dead while all of the tubes were glowing. Everything was OK after the fuse replacement.
Yesterday the same happened wih the left channel (there was a noisy sound, but it was not so loud as in the first instance the day before, the left channel was dead while the output and other tubes were lit).
I replaced the left channel fuse but it blew again.
The output tubes were reissue GL KT88.
Then I found another fuse and replaced all KT88 power tubes with RFT EL-34's.
So far so good - the amp works properly.
Long story short, according to the user manual, an AC fuse should be 3 AMP 250V slow blow, or, with 220V VAC (which is my case - my voltage is 220 or 230V), 2 AMP 250V.
The only fuses available locally are so-called "fusible links"(which means FAST BLOW), while the user manual says SLOW BLOW. None of the sellers seems to know the difference between Slo-blo (slow blow) and fast blow fuses.
The question is: may I buy spare "fusible links" instead of recommended slow-blow fuses?
I also don't understand where .5amp tube protection fuses are located (inside?).
Many thanks in advance.
