Wait until you see it with 3 coats of Tried and True Varnish Oil.
It's Sapele. A poor relation of the Mahogany Family, African Branch.
Don't tell anyone how nice it looks even just coming right off the #4 smooth plane. I'd hate to see the price go up as, unlike it's Honduran cousin, it's very inexpensive.
BTW, if you'd like to license the design, I'm open to offers ;-}
